Ben is very pleased to announce the launch of his exclusive private dining service – an exciting opportunity to experience the very finest Cornish cuisine cooked by the man himself, in the comfort of your own home or holiday accommodation.

Each private dining experience will be completely bespoke. The luxury of being cooked for by an award-winning chef is guaranteed to make any celebration really special, or to stand out in the memory as a highlight of your holiday in Cornwall.

The service was put to the test by the discerning team behind Cornish Gems – Cornwall’s premier luxury holiday letting agent – and passed with flying colours! Ben’s bespoke meal for the Gems took place at Pednolver in St Ives and included a fish filleting demonstration followed by a delicious three-course feast of local, season produce. Guests of Cornish Gems are specially invited to try out Ben’s Private Dining Experience during their next get-away.

Nadia, Co-Managing Director of Cornish Gems, said: “I’m a pescatarian and enjoy sampling the very best seafood that Cornwall has to offer. I was totally out of my comfort zone when Ben passed me the knife and offered up an enormous turbot to fillet. I took up his challenge – what an experience! He inspires you to try new culinary experiences and we are very proud to be working with him!”

Ben is a highly acclaimed chef, having in the past held a Michelin Star at The Abbey in Penzance, before being head-hunted to shape the food offering at boutique bolthole The Scarlet Hotel. He now attracts food-lovers from far and wide at The Tolcarne Inn – a harbourside pub in the fishing port of Newlyn – where he has gained an enviable reputation for serving the freshest seafood in Cornwall.

As part of his new private dining concept, Ben will design each menu individually based on the likes and dislikes of his guests, but seafood – matched with other locally sourced, seasonal ingredients – is undoubtedly the main focus of these unique experiences.

From hand-dived scallops to prime Cornish lobster, freshly-landed turbot to line-caught mackerel, Ben’s menus are based on the finest catch from these waters. Add to that his great relationships with local growers and artisan producers, and Ben is able to offer in-house dining which rivals a meal in any top restaurant. The option of sommelier-matched wines for each course really completes the experience – and no need to worry about driving home!

Ben is also happy to share his knowledge and skills by including interactive elements, for example fish filleting or oyster shucking, so you can pick up some top tips as part of the show!

Back On The Beach!

Ben will be making a return appearance at the St Ives Food and Drink Festival on Porthminster Beach next month, with a demo on Friday 11th May at 4.15pm.

As usual, Ben will be designing his dish at the last minute, based on the best of the catch landed at Newlyn Fish Market and deliveries of fresh local produce from the likes of Bosavern Community Farm and Alsia Cross Market Garden.

The festival has become a real highlight on the foodie calendar here in Cornwall, with three days of demos, street food, local produce stalls and entertainment – plus a well-stocked bar of course!

So, grab yourself a glass of something cold and a seat in the demo tent and watch a masterful seafood dish being created before your eyes: what a way to start the weekend!
